What does the Intellect competency cover on an NCOER?
Intellect is how the NCO thinks — mental agility, sound judgment, innovation, interpersonal tact, and expertise or domain knowledge (ADP 6-22). On the NCOER it reads as analyzing a problem, improving a process, or making a sound call under ambiguity.
How is Intellect different from Achieves on the NCOER?
Intellect is the thinking; Achieves is the result. The process improvement an NCO designed is Intellect; the readiness or mission outcome it produced is Achieves. The same accomplishment can yield one bullet for each block — write them to different ends.
What makes a strong Intellect bullet?
Show judgment or innovation with a concrete example — a process the NCO redesigned, a problem they diagnosed, or expertise they applied — and, where you can, its effect. Lead with the action verb and keep it within the field limit.
